The Noble Profession

Workin' as a lawman has been fun. I like to say it is a noble profession. Where else can you be called a piece of **** one minute and then have some kid tell ya he wants to grow up and be a cop the next? Get shot at and then go order lunch? Get ya one of them knock down dragout fights and then help somebody that can't help themselves?

Sad that the profession has changed. I know what the older guys
once talked of many years ago. As we become more "sophisticated"
and "superior" we also lose a sense of our humanity. Everything has a number and folks face it we're all just that - a number.

I'll be packin' this thing in soon. Get tired of watchin' "the new breed" tell the young folks how to be a lawman when they aint been there themselves. Heck that's Bawlmer.

Maybe one day somebody will get a lick of sense about themself and turn this whole kit and kaboodle around and ...ah gosh darnit I rant...

Long Time Gone...

Been a while folks, but I'm back. Any blood donors out there? I've been givin' up a pint to the Red Cross every chance I'm available since 1983. Before you go - "yeah yeah, beatin' your drum" - hear me out. Back at the end of 2005 I was talked into givin' the two bagger of platelets (RBC)because my numbers were optimal. Well Lordy,
the next few days I felt real weak. Didn't go away. Went to see the Doc (reg appt) and my RBC numbers were down...down...down. Subsequently I missed a donation to allow my numbers to restore. They did - minimally. No meds. No supplements. Went to a Red Cross job donation thing on Friday (10th) and my hematocrit was 36. Two below the minimum the Red Cross will accept. Mind you - never had an issue until I gave the two bagger. Phew. A quandry? Went out and bought me some molasses, ordered some blackstrap molasses caps, got some of those pumpkin seeds, and checked out red meat (usually I only eat a steak 1 x week). This fellers aint cool. Before you go and do that platelet thing make sure you get all the info you can.

Hey I happened to read an article in Writer's Digest and caught a feature on Ted Kooser. The poems that were sampled were really decent. I'm goin' out on a mission to pick up Delights and Shadows - my bet it's a real find.

Opened up a 2002 Wild Hog Vineyards Zinfandel last night and I will say that the wine was - ummm - one word - yummy. Got most of the bottle left so it will be with me for a few more days. As I recall this fine wine was one of Adam's under the counter picks at Annabelles in Ellicott City. If you're in that neck of the woods that is one fine establishment.

My fave restaurants in 2005:

1. Tersiguels - exquisite menu...delectable food...extraordinary wine offerings
and absolutely one of the best wait staffs going (Ellicott City)
2. Sascha's - lovely establishment...food AAAH (Baltimore City - Mt. Vernon)
3. Artful Gourmet - quaint, but muy bueno on the food! (Owings Mills)
4. Vaccaro's - I love a good cannoli...er great cannoli (Little Italy in Baltimore
City)
5. P F Changs - yummy Asian cuisine...good service...nice price (Columbia)
6. Bill Batemans - hey I like their wings, especially the atomic ones
(Reistertown)

...more to come...y'all be safe and check'em out

Even Super Heroes Get The Blues...

I reckon a lot of young folk catch them Saturday morning cartoons or the matinees on TNT or TBS where the Super Hero takes down the Scum of the Earth. C'mon admit it! Even today as a not so young youngster I like to watch.

This morn Batman took care of that rascally Riddler. It was fun ...but I got to thinking - how many times does Batman and Robin have to lock horns with that vermin? Even in the cartoons...the action hero movies - the bad guy always seems to do their dastardly deeds - get caught - do a lil time - then get back out to start some new criminal enterprise.

Kinda takes you down a step or so. Heck, how many times do the law enforcement folk have to go out after the fool they took off the streets just months before? I'm not barkin' for life sentences for them minor things - I'm talkin' murderers, robbers, rapists, pedophiles, arsonists, drug smugglers / manufacturers, gun runners / toters...is that list long enough? Kinda knocks the wind out of your sails to work on a case to take down shoe scum, put'em in and then see'em out because they were "good, model prisoners" or their mouthpiece argues that "they still have something to offer society" (YEAH HEARTACHES AND HEADACHES!).

I get tired of that "y'know we gotta spend more on rehabilatation" stuff always passed out...like society has to teach folk how to do their dastardly deeds better...aw shucks I rant.

Dagnabit.
